The most beautiful hike in Denmark
Strandpromenaden is located by Sandvig Harbour, where the handsome rock formation, Hammerknuden, begins. Put on your hiking boots, and walk along the trails all the way to the top, from where you will have an incredible view of Sandvig. From the top, the trails go all the way around Hammerknuden and to the old castle ruins Hammershus. The hike has been named as the most beautiful in Denmark, and not without reason. On the way back, you can swing by Hammerfyret, a lighthouse, from where you can enjoy the view of all of northern Bornholm – if the weather permits, you might even see all the way to Sweden.
Sandvig Beach is a must
A trip to Sandvig Beach, with its lovely sand and handsome cliffs is, of course, a must for children and adults alike. A great tip is to visit the cosy Hammerhavn, where you can take a boat ride along the coast, and experience the dramatic rocky landscape and the castle ruins Hammershus from the waterside. Experiencing Hammershus from this angle makes it clear, why Hammershus was an almost impenetrable fortress in the Middle Ages. Visit the café on the harbour; they serve what might be the best sandwich on Bornholm.
After lots of nature experiences, perhaps you need to relax on Sandvig Beach? Enjoy the warm sand and clean water. With a smile on your face, you can continue along the beach path to the small cozy cafes in Sandvig. At Sandvig Harbour, you will find the small ice house, Kalas Bornholm. Here you can get homemade ice cream made from organic whole milk with berries and fruit from the local gardens on the island. The ice house is located right by the sea and the cliffs and has a breathtaking view.
There are many good restaurants in Sandvig and Allinge, but a good "different" tip is to visit the cafe "Sandlinien" at Sandvig Beach.
Horseback riding at Hammershus
In the beautiful nature area near Sandvig and Hammershus, you have the opportunity to go on guided horse rides during the summer. There are tours for both beginners and experienced riders - and it's a wonderful experience to see the area from horseback.
