If you fancy a pizza, get one from the famous ”Sørens Værtshus”, where two old fisherman’s shacks have been rebuilt to house a cafe/bar. In the evening, you can listen to live music, and Sørens Værtshus invites the whole family to have a good time. An old rowing boat hangs from the ceiling, and if you want to climb into it, go ahead!
On Saturdays, Snogebæk hosts a flea market, which is worth a visit, before you return to your holiday apartment in Balka.
Bicycles and suckling pig
Balka Beach, and your holiday apartment, is located between Snogebæk Harbour and Balka Harbour. On Balka Harbour, you can visit the charming cafe Weekendhytten, where they serve up light dishes and holiday spirit, as well as hosts evenings with suckling pig on the menu. On Balka Harbour, you will find Boss Cykler, with a wide selection of bicycles for hire. The wide reaching web of bicycle routes on Bornholm are easily accessible from Balka. Go for a bicycle ride along the old railroad to Nexø, which is the second largest town on Bornholm.
Town and history
From your holiday apartment in Balka, there is no more than 4 kilometres to Nexø. In Nexø, you will find a an active commercial life and plenty of eateries. Visit Nexø Museum by the harbour, and hear the story of how Russia bombed Nexø on the 7th and 8th of May 1945. Bornholm was not liberated from the German occupation at the same time as the rest of Denmark. The German Commander refused to surrender to anyone but the British, and because Bornholm was located in an area of interest to the Russians, Bornholm was occupied by Russia until 1946. Traces in the sand
Jump on your bicycle, leave your holiday apartment in Balka, and go on an adventure in the Paradise Hills. A charming bicycle lane twists its way between trees and lakes. On the road between the Paradise Hills and Balka, you will pass by Slamrebjerg, which is one of the highest points on Southern Bornholm. Here, it is still possible to see the foundations of a German radar outpost, which sent warnings to the Germans during World War II, when English and American planes flew across Bornholm, on their way to their targets in Germany.
